Disney Lorcana
Nobody keeps the whole tale in one place, so we do. A living timeline of the world, its Illumineers, and every twist the ink has taken, from the first chapter to the set on the table right now.
Before the timeline, the handful of ideas everything else hangs on. If you have ever wondered what your cards actually are, start here.
A vast library-machine built long ago by a mysterious sorcerer, the Curator. It gathers the light of stories and holds a reservoir of magical ink. Everything in Lorcana flows out of it.
Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Steel. The Curator drew Disney characters into the world using these six colors of ink. They are the game's six colors, and the story's raw material.
Every character card is a Glimmer, a living version of a Disney character pulled from a lorebook. They keep their personality but take on new roles. Your board is a table full of them.
The three ways a Glimmer can be made. Storyborn come straight from their tale, Dreamborn are imagined anew, and Floodborn were changed by the Flood (more on that below).
That's you, and it's them: creative people summoned to Lorcana to restore it. The story follows three, the poet Shayzan, the programmer Venturo, and the musician Martin, who wield Inkcasters to call Glimmers and gather Lore.
Lore is the story-energy you quest for (the game's points). The Inklands are the wider realm beyond the Illuminary, where much of the adventure now unfolds.
Each set is a chapter. Here is the through-line, arc by arc, from the first Flood to the vine that is tearing through the Inklands right now. Where the story has not confirmed something yet, we say so rather than guess.
The beginning. Summoned to a dormant realm, the Illumineers take up their Inkcasters and start pulling Glimmers from the lorebooks, gathering scattered Lore to bring the Great Illuminary back to life. Calm before everything changes.
Martin opens a locked lorebook crusted in barnacles and dark seaweed, and a torrential wave of dark ink pours out. It surges through the Illuminary and into the Inklands, warping the Glimmers it touches. Some age, some gain strange new power, some are transformed entirely. These changed Glimmers become the Floodborn.
An adventuring chapter. The team pushes out into the flooded Inklands chasing King Triton's lost trident, only to be outmaneuvered: there turn out to be two Ursulas loose in the realm, and the true one betrays her rainbow-haired double to seize the trident for herself.
The grittiest chapter yet, and the payoff. Ursula weaponizes the dark ink, swelling to monstrous size and ensnaring the minds of characters across the realm. At her lair she is finally beaten back by empowered Glimmers of Ariel, Mulan, and Mickey, the stolen Lore is freed, and her crown is shattered. Arc I closes.
Victory turns uneasy. As the Illumineers celebrate, pieces of the Great Illuminary begin to fall from the sky. Basil and Merlin uncover an Amber amulet in a hidden chamber and pass it to Martin, Hades starts quietly scheming, and a shadowy figure is seen approaching the wreckage of Ursula's crown. Someone wants what she left behind.
The crew takes to the water, guided by Jim Hawkins, hunting the owner of a mysterious Inkcaster Ariel recovered. The reasoning: find one of the Curator's lost disciples and you might find the Curator himself. Meanwhile Jafar collects the remnants of Ursula's shattered crown and reforges them into the Hexwell Crown.
The trail leads to an ancient island and its keeper, Archazia, a wise old owl who seems to be the Inkcaster's owner. She reveals two things that reframe the whole arc: the Hexwell Forge that makes such artifacts, and that the Hexwell Crown is only half of something larger, splintered in two. She trains the team and grants "coils" that let a Glimmer answer to two inks at once, the story's nod to the game's dual-ink cards.
Jafar closes the arc the only way a sorcerer would. He turns his serpent staff on the detective Basil, hypnotizing him and using the little sleuth's own talents to track down the crown's missing pieces. With the Hexwell Crown whole again, Jafar seizes Archazia's Island and bends it to his will, filling it with traps and illusions. It takes the glimmers banding together to steal the crown back and put him down. (The standalone quest Palace Heist runs alongside.)
A new era opens, and the game resets its Core rotation around it. The story turns quiet and curious: Mickey and Ariel investigate a mysterious magical well. It reads like a breather chapter. It is actually the first thread of everything that follows.
The well answers, and it is a detective story. Strange half-formed specters called Whispers start rising from the deep, and nobody knows where they come from. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde work the case, the Horned King lurks, and the Gargoyles arrive in Lorcana for the first time. Underneath the mystery, something else begins: a strange inkwell plant starts creeping in patches around the Illuminary, and a vision from Hen Wen shows it growing down in the caverns where the inkwells form. That is the vine, and this is where it takes root.
The first attempt to stop the vine goes badly wrong. An Elsa glimmer tries to freeze the plant into submission, and her magic runs away with her, burying the realm in ice and snow. Elsa seals herself inside the Illuminary rather than risk doing more harm. It is Anna who reaches her, helps her take back control, and finally lifts the Winterspell. A cure that became its own disaster, and the vine is still there underneath it.
The thaw leaves the Illumineers and their glimmers scattered across three new domains, and the story becomes a long walk home through country nobody has mapped. Pixar arrives with it: Toy Story, Brave, and The Incredibles. And if you look at the set's art, the vine is in it, winding through the background of the whole expansion. It never stopped growing.
The thing that started as a few odd shoots under the Illuminary finally comes for everyone. The vine goes on the attack across the Inklands, Monsters, Inc. joins the fight, and the rotation this set brought reshaped competitive play at the same time. This is the live chapter, and where our timeline meets the present.

It first appears as an odd inkwell plant under the Illuminary in Whispers in the Well, in the very caverns where ink forms. Nothing has explained what planted it, or why it grows out of the realm's ink supply.
Half-formed specters rising out of the well. The detectives never got a clean answer, and they showed up in the same set as the vine. That timing is unlikely to be a coincidence.
The founder of the whole realm, vanished before the story began. The hunt for him drove Arc II and has never actually concluded.
Reassembled by Jafar, then taken back from him. Archazia said it was forged at a Hexwell Forge. An artifact that powerful rarely stays off the table.
A note on accuracy: this timeline is a fan-made summary compiled from Ravensburger's official Lorcana story materials and the Lorcana community wikis, and we flag the sets where canon is still thin rather than invent detail. The story, characters, and world of Disney Lorcana belong to Ravensburger and Disney; we are Illumineers passing it along. Spot something we got wrong or a beat we should add? That is exactly the kind of note that makes a living page better.
