Six weeks before Dillon Leduc's Amber Amethyst Midrange won North Americans, someone registered a second reading of the same ink pair at a CCQ in Palm Harbor, Florida, on July 18, 2026. It finished second in a field of 99. TCGplayer's record of the list carries no player name, and you can find it on TCGplayer.

We verified all 60 cards against the catalogue and priced them from our daily feed. Total cost: $557.95.

The short version
  • $557.95 to build, with three playsets accounting for most of it: Dumbo at $205.24, Demona at $163.92, Hades at $121.92.
  • Eight Evasive bodies are the engine. Alert strips that protection entirely, and several cards grant it to a whole board.
  • Demona - Scourge of the Wyvern Clan is the closer. She exerts every opposing character on entry, but she can't ready while you hold three or more cards.
  • Start with Grandmother Willow - Ancient Advisor at $3.49 each if you're building on a budget. She makes the cost curve work.

The interesting thing about this list is what it shares with the North Americans winner and what it changed. The shell is recognisable. The finisher is different.

What the deck is actually doing

This is a midrange deck that wants to build a board of Evasive characters, draw cards off them, and quest to twenty. That is the whole plan.

Dumbo - Ninth Wonder of the Universe is the centrepiece. He costs four ink and has Evasive himself. His ability, BREAKING RECORDS, lets you exert him and pay one ink to draw a card and gain a lore.

Then MAKING HISTORY gives that same activated ability to every other Evasive character you control. So a board with Dumbo and two other Evasive bodies is drawing three cards and gaining three lore a turn before anyone quests.

Sven - Leaping Reindeer is one of those bodies. He costs four ink, has Rush and Evasive and Challenger +3. He can challenge the turn he's played and can't be challenged back by anything without Evasive. Violet Parr - Learning New Powers costs three ink and is also Evasive, plus she moves a damage counter on entry.

Eight characters in this deck have Evasive. Four are Dumbo. That is the core.

The support structure

The early game is about getting there. Eilonwy - Princess of Llyr costs one ink and has Support. Agustin Madrigal - Exceptionally Kind costs four ink and also has Support. Both of them exist to push strength into a character that needs to survive a challenge.

Grandmother Willow - Ancient Advisor costs two ink. Her SMOOTH THE WAY ability reduces the cost of the next character you play each turn by one ink. She is why the curve works. You play her into a four-drop and effectively pay three.

A board with Dumbo and two other Evasive bodies is drawing three cards and gaining three lore a turn before anyone quests.

Luisa Madrigal - Pushing Through costs one ink and has Challenger +2. She is a one-drop that can challenge up. Luisa Madrigal - Confident Climber costs five ink, has Shift 3, and can redirect damage from your characters into an opposing one. She is the same character at two stages of the game.

Besties, Assemble! costs one ink and looks at the top four cards for a character to put in hand. Junior Woodchuck Guidebook costs two ink and draws two cards when you exert it and pay one. Both exist to keep the hand full while the board builds.

The closer

Demona - Scourge of the Wyvern Clan costs six ink. When you play her, AD SAXUM COMMUTATE exerts every opposing character. Then each player with fewer than three cards draws back up to three. The STONE BY DAY drawback is the catch: if you have three or more cards in your hand, she cannot ready.

So she locks their board, then locks herself. The design intent is clear. You play her when you are low on cards, get the refill, and accept that she sits exerted until your hand empties again. In practice she is a one-shot sweeper that also happens to be a six-willpower body your opponent has to deal with somehow.

Four copies at $40.98 each. That is $163.92 for the playset.

The removal package

This deck does not run a lot of direct removal. World's Greatest Criminal Mind costs three ink and banishes a character with five strength or more. Gaston - Superior Archer costs five ink and does the same thing on entry. Both effects are conditional on the target's strength, so anything small survives them.

Mowgli - Man Cub costs two ink. When you play him, the opponent reveals their hand and discards a non-character card of their choice. It is not hard removal. It is hand disruption, and three copies of it is enough to pull a key action or song at a bad moment.

Tigger - Bouncing All the Way costs four ink. When you play him, you may return a character, item or location with cost two or less to its player's hand.

That handles small utility pieces. Isis Vanderchill - Ice Queen of St. Canard costs four ink and exerts a chosen opposing character on entry. Neither is a banish. They are tempo plays.

Hades - Looking for a Deal costs five ink. When you play him, WHAT D'YA SAY? lets you choose an opposing character: that player draws two cards or puts the character on the bottom of their deck. The opponent chooses, but neither outcome is good for them. Four copies at $30.48 each, $121.92 for the set.

Where it stops working

Eight Evasive characters is a real number. It is also a real target. Alert is the keyword that answers it: Alert reads that a character can challenge as if they had Evasive. A deck with board-wide Alert grants strips the protection from every Evasive character you control simultaneously.

Cards that grant Alert to a whole board include Angus - Mighty Horse, But I'm Much Faster, Infra-Pink Ultra Scan Specs, Inkrunner, Judy Hopps - Lead Detective, and Minnie Mouse - Ghost Hunter. None of those are on this list. If your opponent is running any of them, Sven and Violet Parr are suddenly challengeable by anything.

That is the honest version of the weakness. The Evasive plan wins games where the opponent cannot answer it. Against a deck that came prepared, it does not.

Demona's own drawback is also real. The STONE BY DAY restriction means she cannot ready while you hold three or more cards. In a deck built around drawing cards, that is a non-trivial condition to avoid.

Who should build this

$557.95 is a real number, and most of it is three playsets. Dumbo at $205.24, Demona at $163.92, Hades at $121.92. Those three sets alone are $491.08. Everything else is under $50 combined.

This is not a budget build and there is no version of it that is. The engine is the expensive part, and the engine is the deck.

If you already own the Demona and Hades copies, the entry cost drops sharply. If you are starting from scratch, start with Grandmother Willow - Ancient Advisor at $3.49 each, because she is in every version of this archetype and she is cheap enough to pick up without committing to the full list.

Buy the Dumbo copies last, once you know this is the shell you want to play.
