Priscilla - Efficient Clerk enters play exerted. That is where most players stop reading, and that is exactly wrong.

The short version
  • She quests for 2 lore at 3 ink, which is a completely ordinary rate for a Sapphire three-drop.
  • FILING SYSTEM is the reason to play her. Every quest puts a card in your hand and a card in your inkwell, simultaneously.
  • NOT-SO-SECRET CRUSH means she cannot quest the turn she arrives. Plan for that delay or she wastes a turn.
  • She has 4 willpower and 0 strength. She survives most board damage but cannot win a challenge on her own.

The NOT-SO-SECRET CRUSH ability reads, word for word: "This character enters play exerted." She cannot quest turn one of her arrival. That is real, and we will come back to it. But sit with FILING SYSTEM first, because it is unusual enough to deserve full attention.

"Whenever this character quests, you may look at the top 2 cards of your deck. Put one into your hand and the other into your inkwell facedown and exerted."

That is not draw-or-ink. It is draw-and-ink, both, from a single quest. Most card engines make you choose. Priscilla - Efficient Clerk does not.

What FILING SYSTEM actually gives you

One quest resolves and you have improved your hand and deepened your inkwell at the same time. Over three turns of questing, that is three extra cards in hand and three extra ink banked. That acceleration compounds. By mid-game you are not choosing between playing cards and building your inkwell. You are doing both, every turn she is ready.

The catch is that she looks at only the top two. You take one and bury the other. If both cards are ones you want, you are choosing, not gaining.

If both are bad draws, you have just sunk one of them into the inkwell where it cannot help you. You are trusting the top of your deck a little every time you quest.

Sapphire already has deck-management tools, so this is not a blind bet in the right shell. But it is worth naming honestly.

The cost of arriving exerted

She costs 3 ink. She quests for 2 lore. That is a fine rate. But she cannot quest until turn four at the earliest, assuming you play her on curve. By the time FILING SYSTEM fires, your opponent has had a full extra turn to build their board.

There are 48 characters in this game at 3 ink questing for 2 lore. Li Shang - Seasoned Strategist and Minnie Mouse - Tiny Tim's Mother, both Sapphire, carry the same 2 lore and reach the board ready to quest immediately.

Priscilla - Efficient Clerk's advantage is that she tends to give you something Shang and Minnie never do: ink and a card in the same action. The delay is real. Whether it costs you depends on how fast your opponent is moving.

In a slower game, entering exerted is a minor inconvenience. Against a deck that pressures your board every turn, you may spend a whole round just hoping she survives long enough to pay off.

What keeps her alive and what does not

Four willpower is respectable. She survives the kind of ambient board damage that wipes out 1- and 2-willpower bodies, and her 0 strength means she does not draw challenges she cannot answer. She is not a threat. She is furniture, and furniture that does not threaten anyone tends to stay on the table.

That said, she is not safe. Goofy - Klutzy Skier, at 3 ink, banishes her without caring about her willpower. If She Doesn't Scare You does the same at 4. Boo - Energetic Child, also 3 ink, can challenge her off the board if the numbers work out.

Damage effects also reach her. He Hurled His Thunderbolt at 4 ink and Ink Explosion at 4 ink both deal enough to take her down. Removal that banishes a character with 0 strength or less is a different story: with 0 strength she triggers it, not escapes it.

Tramp - Quick on His Feet at 2 ink and Intimidation Tactics at 2 ink can both threaten her. Small as she is, she is not immune to that bracket.

The honest version is this: she is a quest engine, not a survivor. The 4 willpower buys time. It does not make her safe.

Where she actually belongs

Priscilla - Efficient Clerk wants a Sapphire deck that values card flow over board presence. She does not affect the board at all. Unbuffed, her 0 strength means she never wins a challenge.

She is not there to trade. She is there to run FILING SYSTEM as many times as possible and let the rest of your deck do the work.

She pairs well with decks that already have ways to ready exerted characters, since you could theoretically quest her twice in one turn. Whether such synergies are available in your build is something you would have to check for yourself, and I will not speculate on specific combos the brief does not confirm.

One quest resolves and you have improved your hand and deepened your inkwell at the same time.

When to run her and when to skip her

If your Sapphire deck is already ink-poor and draw-poor mid-game, Priscilla - Efficient Clerk solves two problems with one card. She is a Rare, so she is not chasing a low print rate.

If your deck is fast and you need to pressure lore totals from turn one, she is the wrong tool. A character that cannot quest on arrival and contributes nothing to the board until her second turn is a liability in that context.

Run her when you can afford one idle turn at the three-cost slot. Protect her with willpower-boosting effects if you have them.

And when she finally quests, actually use FILING SYSTEM every time: the temptation to skip it when both cards look bad is real, but a card in your inkwell is still a resource, even if it is not the one you wanted.

If you take one thing from this piece, let it be that: build your deck around the delay, not in spite of it, and FILING SYSTEM will compound into an advantage most opponents will not see coming until it is too late.
