Seven ink for one lore. That number is going to make some people close the tab, and they should at least read the next paragraph first.

The short version
  • QUIETLY RELEASED puts a character on the bottom of their deck, not in the discard. It disappears, and the damage counters go with it (rule 1.9.6).
  • The cap is 3 strength or less. Big threats are untouched. This is precision removal, not a sweeper.
  • Seven ink, uninkable, one lore. You are paying for the removal, not the questing.
  • Four effects that banish any character, no conditions, start at 3 ink. He is not hard to answer once he lands.

Seven ink is the top of the curve. You need a reason to go there, and with most characters that reason is a stat line or a lore payoff. Shere Khan - Ruthless Entrepreneur gives you neither. Seven strength and four willpower is a fine body, but one lore means he quests like a two-drop. So why play him?

The text reads: "QUIETLY RELEASED When you play this character, put chosen opposing character with 3 ¤ or less on the bottom of their player's deck."

That is the reason.

What "put on the bottom" actually does

This is not a banish. It is not a bounce. The card goes to the bottom of its owner's deck, which means two things. First, the opponent does not get to reuse it easily. A bounced card comes back next turn; a card buried at the bottom of a thirty-card deck might not come back at all this game.

Second, any damage on that character ceases to exist the moment it leaves play (rule 1.9.6). If you have spent two turns trading hits with a small character, Shere Khan - Ruthless Entrepreneur wipes that investment clean and sends the problem to the back of the line.

The strength cap is 3. That is a hard ceiling. Shere Khan - Ruthless Entrepreneur does nothing to a 4-strength character, and there is no way to adjust the threshold. Keep that number in mind when you are reading the board.

What he actually removes

Three strength is lower than it sounds. A lot of the game's utility characters, support pieces, and early-curve questors sit at 3 or below. The cards that ping your hand, ready your other characters, draw you cards, and accumulate lore quietly while you deal with bigger threats.

Those are the targets. Shere Khan - Ruthless Entrepreneur is not trying to clear the board's biggest threat. He is a scalpel pointed at the thing that has been quietly winning the game from the corner.

That said, the removal is real. He puts the target on the bottom of the deck on the same turn you play him, with no additional cost and no additional condition. You do not need to exert him. You do not need to challenge. You play him and it happens.

Where he stops working

Here is the honest version of seven ink and four willpower. He is vulnerable. Goofy - Klutzy Skier banishes him outright for 3 ink and does not care about his strength. If She Doesn't Scare You does the same for 4 ink. Dragon Fire handles him for 5 ink.

None of those effects deal damage. They just remove him, and QUIETLY RELEASED has already fired, so you get the trigger, but you lose the body immediately after. Playing him into removal gives you the trigger and nothing else, which is likely the best result you can hope for in that situation.

The damage-based answers are also real. He Hurled His Thunderbolt and Ink Explosion both deal damage for 4 ink each. Shere Khan - Ruthless Entrepreneur has four willpower, which is not a lot for a seven-ink character. He is not hard to banish through direct damage, either.

World's Greatest Criminal Mind banishes characters with strength above a threshold, and at 3 ink it is one of the cheapest ways to deal with him directly. Judy Hopps - Always Vigilant at 4 ink and Gaston - Superior Archer at 5 ink do the same job.

He is not hard to answer once he lands. The question is whether the trigger was worth what you paid.

He cannot go in your inkwell. Every copy of Shere Khan - Ruthless Entrepreneur is a card you must play or hold dead in hand. That cost is real and you should weigh it before you put four copies in a deck.

Who else does this at seven ink

The seven-ink slot for Emerald is not crowded with characters questing for one lore. There is no close rival doing the same job, which is burying a utility threat on arrival.

Magica De Spell - Conniving Sorceress at 7 ink in Amethyst is also uninkable and also generates a large effect when you play her, but she is a card draw engine with a Shift attached, not removal. The comparison only holds structurally. They are doing different things.

The rival worth thinking about is not another seven-drop. It is a cheaper removal spell in the same deck. If you are in Emerald and you can handle the 3-strength threat earlier in the game for less ink, you might not need Shere Khan - Ruthless Entrepreneur at all.

He makes sense when the threat you want to bury is still alive at turn seven and no earlier answer reached it.

When he earns his spot

He is speculative at his cost, and I want to be honest about that. There is no verified combo that makes him an obvious include.

The argument for him is contextual: if you are facing a deck that relies on a small-strength engine piece staying in play for a long time, and your other removal lines cannot handle it cleanly, Shere Khan - Ruthless Entrepreneur answers it in a way nothing else does.

The target goes to the bottom of the deck, not to the discard where recursion can find it, and not to the hand where it comes back next turn.

That is a real advantage. It is just narrow.

The decision you need to make

Play Shere Khan - Ruthless Entrepreneur if you have a specific target in mind and the rest of your deck can support a seven-ink character that quests for one. Before you put him in the list, name the card he is there to bury.

If you cannot name one, he is not the card you need. If you can, he is better at that job than most of what Emerald has at this cost. Build around the trigger, not the stats.
